Jeans for Genes Day – Friday 4th August 2023

Jeans for Genes Day is an annual event that brings together individuals, schools, workplaces, and communities to raise awareness and funds for genetic disorders, rare diseases and birth defects.

On this day people are encouraged to swap their regular attire for a pair of jeans to show their support and to donate whatever amount they are able to the Children’s Medical Research Institute to help find cures. One of the primary purposes of Jeans for Genes Day is to raise awareness, as many people are unaware of the vast number of genetic conditions that affect millions of individuals worldwide, with 1 in 20 kids currently faced with a birth defect or genetic disease (that’s 12 kids born every minute worldwide!).

By participating in this event, we help start conversations and spread knowledge and awareness about these often-overlooked medical / Developmental conditions. Some of the conditions which Jeans for Genes Day supports and brings awareness to include: Cystic Fibrosis, Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Sickle Cell Disease, Hemophilia, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Cancer, Developmental Disorder, and Neurodevelopmental Disorder.

Jeans for Genes Day, apart from supporting researchers in finding a cure and raising awareness, lets kids and family know that there is hope. Jeans for Genes Day is an inspiring initiative that bridges fashion and genetics to create a positive impact on the lives of children and their families. This year (2023), in particular, is a big milestone for Jeans for Genes Day, as it marks 30 years of helping to save children’s lives. Within this time, millions of Australians have taken part and donated a combined total of $63.5 million for medical research!

This year will be no different with people uniting nation-wide to support this important cause. If you want to find out more about Jeans for Genes day, you can follow this link: https://fundraise.jeansforgenes.org.au/
